Team Assessments

Personality assessments can add to your team's efficiency.

Here's how:

  1. Reduce conflict. We often interpret differing work styles in negative ways and infer bad intentions. A colleague might be labeled “anal” and seen as a “controlling” person. Another colleague might be labeled “lazy” and seen as failing to plan. Personality inventories provide neutral language to describe differences, demonstrate areas of commonality and can be used to emphasize the strategic benefits of differences.

  2. Gather and organize information efficiently. Personality assessments take between 30 - 60 minutes to complete and often provide helpful information about team members that might take months or years to identify in the daily course of business. The information is organized in such a manner that all team members can see connections to day-to-day interactions.

  3. Assist in problem solving. Personality assessments give teams a starting point to identify communication strategies and provide concrete suggestions about how to communicate across different styles. With this knowledge, teams often avoid problems and have immediate strategies when conflict emerges.

  4. Teams love it! Most professionals acknowledge that people have different personality and communication styles and know generally that different employees will respond differently to different approaches. However, there is a vast difference between knowing this generally and having an in depth understanding of one’s own style and how respond helpfully to colleagues’ different styles.

Most of our personality or leadership tests can be used in group training sessions. These sessions combine "team-level" and "individual level" analysis and provide all the information each person needs on how individual preferences relate to his or her team’s culture. Teams also learn to leverage their style strengths and differences to become more effective together.

We also provide opportunities for your top leadership to assess its own team functioning. This assessment provides an objective evaluation of the strengths and gaps of the team at the top. It involves individual interviews with each member of the team, a 360-evaluation of each team member and integration of these results. Focus is on the current status of the team as well as on future needs.

This is a valuable diagnostic tool as well as a crucial baseline in the beginning of a consulting relationship. We typically start a new client engagement with this activity. A two-hour feedback session is conducted with the team leader and then to the team. This assessment is often used to guide planning about subsequent team and individual development.
