Our Projects
Our capabilities are based on years of experience both leading businesses and advising clients in three distinct areas of business -- Leadership, Strategy and Family Business. The following represent just a few of the projects we have worked on, as well as what is currently on our plate.
Leadership Development
After identifying the work of one particular division as the key battleground for achieving sustainable competitive advantage, a large, high-profile corporation needed to accelerate the development of the division’s top people. As part of this mission critical work, we are providing executive coaching support for these leaders as well as helping them build their own functional leadership teams.
After 13 years, the Executive Roundtables remain the premier peer-to-peer meetings for Central Iowa business Leaders. The conversations are candid and confidential, providing an opportunity for participants to solve their biggest challenges. Topics covered vary each session, but typically cover: profitability, competitive advantages, leadership, organizational design and growth.
A number of clients conduct periodic board evaluations that include overall performance, director re-nomination and director peer review services. This process typically includes a comprehensive CEO evaluation.
We are using the 5 Dysfunctions of a Team workshop to help a variety of client leadership teams ramp up their performance.
Growth Strategies
Although current market conditions have some concerned about business growth, there continues to be a significant number of firms that see strong opportunities in the market. In fact, we have a number of clients planning to make acquisitions within the next six months and we are advising them on pre-deal strategy structure, negotiations and due diligence.
We recently helped a client acquire a business that included products and services adjacent yet outside of its existing core business. This allowed the company to begin diversifying its portfolio, offer broader products and services to its customer base and reach new markets. Now that the deal is completed, we are working to craft the company's total growth strategy which includes additional acquisitions.
We also have been privileged to work with a rapidly increasing number of clients on planning issues ranging from annual operating plans to strategic repositioning for the entire business. These clients are very focused on systematically evaluating the marketplace, understanding their competitors, asking hard questions about their business and leveraging their competitive advantages. For example, one of our local distribution clients needs to take the next step in its growth strategy and make some big decisions. We’re working through what that means and how to accomplish it.
In another strategy project, Jensen Consulting assisted a client that had an under-performing subsidiary. Together, we identified a clear short term operating plan to regain direction, achieve mission critical initiatives and build better alignment with the parent company’s overall strategies.
